Bitrate Calculator Lite is a tool to ease the conversion of DVD movies. A bitrate calculator helps you decide on a number of values that you need to enter during the conversion of a media file. In this case, Bitrate Calculator Lite gives you a few presets that you can use: DVD-5, DVD-9, HD-DVD, CD, etc.
You have to type in the length of your video file in minutes. By default, the value is 90 (1 half and a half). Below there are two drop-down menus: Bitrate Limit and Media Size. When you make a selection and click on "Calculate" you will see the maximum, average and minimum bitrates that you can use to convert that file and make sure it fits in the media size you selected. You can also change the audio quality and number of tracks and specify if there are menus, subtitles or other assets, which usually add up some megabytes to your project.
There are some features that are not available in the "Lite" version, such as "Save EPISODE preset". When you click on one of those, you will see a nag screen that reminds you of the limitations of the "Lite" version.
In short, this is a nice tool to have if you do video conversions. Most converters come with a built-in calculator, though.
