Info updated on:

AmorphousDiskMark is intended for assessing read and write performance of your disk drives. The application has a minimalistic interface, which shows the read/write figures for the four different tests being performed. Results are shown in terms of megabytes and read/write operations per second. Luckily, it supports detecting all the drives on your machines, even internal disks.

You can quickly configure tests without much difficulty. In this respect, it is possible to set the desired test count, size and interval, which you can do right from the main window. Additionally, you can go to Settings for customizing other aspects of the test. For instance, it is allowed to use random data or all zeros, configure a different interval and modify queue depth. It is a pity that some types of tests cannot be stopped once they have started. Luckily, the application allows exporting test results to a text file, which you can share with others or save for future reference.

In short, AmorphousDiskMark can help you measure your disk’s performance through read/write data block tests. Just a wish: It would be good if the tool kept a record of previous tests on each drive and show pertinent alerts, considering that testing the same disk repeatedly can reduce its lifespan. The product is available from the Mac App Store at no cost.
