Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first person survival horror. The game puts in control of Daniel, who wakes up in a dark mansion not remembering a thing. The first thing that you have to do is follow a trail of pink liquid. The game constantly reminds you of what you have to do so that you don't get lost. Amnesia is a game that is best played with the correct gamma settings, so that the screen is dark. It is also best played at high volume and in a dark room, so that you can immerse yourself in the experience. One interesting concept in this game is that you will lose your sanity when you are in the dark, so you have to be careful not to stay in dark places for long. When you stare at weird things or enemies, you sanity will also start to decrease, which makes the image that you see blurry and your character will start stumbling and seeing visions. You can increase your sanity by lighting a lantern, advancing through the game or by solving puzzles.
I really enjoyed the little time that I spent playing the game. It was a really scary and dark experience but the story seemed to be good and the controls and game mechanics were solid.
Amnesia The Dark Descent can be bought on the Mac App Store, Steam and from the developer directly. There is a demo available as well.
