Compiled HTML Help (CHM) is a format that shares some popularity among Windows users in particular due to the simplicity of its design as well as being native to the operating system.
Tubby is a fairly minimalist tool which may be expected for its size. There are no output setting available; it automatically creates a folder (with the CHM name) in the same location where the CHM file lies and extracts its HTML contents. As with most one-functionality tools, I expected a drop area for opening a CHM file; Tubby however requires you to drop files into its Dock icon. Also, the application can only extract HTML contents from one CHM file at a time. Currently, no batch processing is available.
The utility is one of many CHM decoders you may find online; in spite of this, Tubby stands out as a great option.
Pros
- 1 click CHM expansion
- Preserves folder structure
- Retains page layout and links
Cons
- Only expands one CHM file at a time
- No drop zone
