I downloaded a movie (which supports both HD and SD) in Sony Pictures Download Manager, and it says that my current device configuration does not support HD content. Does Macbook Pro with Retina Display 13 inch (latest model) support HD content or the Sony Pictures Download Manager doesn't recognize it?

Yes, the software doesn't recognize the file. As you can see on the product page, your Macbook Pro supports HD content. Sony Pictures Download Manager doesn't recognize your file because you're trying to play a video and the software has been developed to work only with images. I suggest you check Mac Informer database for an alternative solution.
