Yes, you can download an updated version of MP Navigator that is compatible with Mac OS Lion. Please go to the support site and click on: Drivers & Software > Mac OS > OS X 10.7 version and select the Software category. Please take into account that if you upgrade to 10.8 Mountain Lion, MP Navigator won't be available for downloading.
I downloaded MP Navigator EE on my new Mac OS X 10.7. But when I tried to open it a message came up with a list of Canon printers and mine wasn't on it. I have a MP170/MP150. Do I need to get a newer printer or is there anything I can do to make it work?

Please try to update your Mp Navigator software from the official website of this device. It's possible that your system was updated and the MP Navigator applications needs updating as well. Uninstall the current version from your computer and install a new one.
How come that my Canon MP Navigator refuses to open after I have installed the OS X 10.8 system. Any remedy, or do I have to wait till Canon gets an update? Or wait till Mac gets an update?

For Apple, the jump from 10.6 to 10.7 or 10.7 to 10.8 is a big process because it involves big system updates regarding all hardware and software components. In 10.8 many things changed regarding how the applications work with their subsystems and software and such many, 3rd party applications (like your MP Navigator) have to be modified to work with the new operating system. This remains at hand of developers to adapt or to improve their software to work with newer systems and technologies.
I suggest that you remove your old MP Navigator by dragging its main icon into the bin and wait for full uninstall. Restart your Mac then download the newest MP Navigator which works with 10.8 system from this link. Your printer will work fine with the newest software.
I get this message when scanning with MP Navigator from my Cannon MX870to my iMAC (Mac OSX 10.6):
"Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed."
How and where can I get an upgrade to MP Navigator for my Mac computer? My existing MP Navigator 2.2 (6/20/06) won't scan & says it's not connected. But my MX870 printer is connected and it scans with Image Capture.

Most likely your version of the Mp Navigator is outdated and does not recognize your device. My advice is to download a new package of the software and uninstall the old one. Simply go to Applications folder and drag its icon to the Trash, then run the newly downloaded MP Navigator package. Also, it is recommended to perform a restart of your computer although it's not necessary but the process could come in handy for the old files to get deleted.
