Info updated on:

MathType is an advanced program where you can write down complex equations while using dozens of available symbols and functions; this piece of software comes in handy for users who intend to publish math gazettes, build a project for school, etc.

When launching the application for the first time, a welcome window will appear where the program will recommend you to check the tutorial from the Help menu to learn how to use this efficient tool at its full potential. On top of the screen, you will find all the tools you need to write your calculations, from simple algebra (+, -, /, etc.) and logistic symbols to elaborate geometry and trigonometry functions.
You can customize the text's appearance by opting for another character style (bold, italic, simple), changing the font's type, size and color, etc.

Once you finished writing down your equations, you can either save the document as a PDF file or you can print it directly from the application.

Finally, MathType is a handy program that enables you to write elaborate calculations for test papers, projects or even your own math book.

These days the native Word equation editor is more powerful, provides better looking equations, and respects line spacing and line breaks better than MathType. There is no reason for this product if your main work is on MS Word. And besides, the licensing model means that you won't be able to edit your MathType equations unless you keep your MathType subscription. In other words, you have to commit to MathType for the rest of your professional life.
