MacTheRipper 2.6

MacTheRipper is a very popular free DVD ripper for the Mac. It was designed to let you create backup copies of your legally owned DVD movies.

MacTheRipper can do a couple of things to your DVD movies when it rips them. The first thing that it can do is remove region-protection measures. By setting the region to number 0, the app effectively removes the region protection. It can also remove CSS and Macrovision protection from DVD movies, which is key when you are ripping a DVD movie.

There are different ways in which this app can rip your movies, and you can select them from the "Mode" tab. By default, the application copies the entire movie back to your hard drive, including bonus materials, menus, etc. You can choose other modes from the drop-down menu. Some of the other modes let you copy only the main title or to select the title that you want to copy.

MacTheRipper doesn't feature the best graphical user interface you have seen. In all honesty, the app is showing its true age. However, it is free and it works well, so who am I to complain?

MacTheRipper is a PowerPC app, which means that it won't work on the latest version of Mac OS X, Lion.
