Gratuitous Space Battles is a great strategy game. It is an original concept in which you design a space battle fleet and fight other alien fleets for survival. You don't control your fleet once it is deployed, which means you don't really have control over how your ships perform on the battlefield after you have deployed them. The only thing you can do to make sure that you win a battle is to have the upper hand with the ships that make it to the battlefield. You can design ships in pretty much any way you want. You start with a hull type, and you can add weapons, engines, crew and shields to any hull. There are different types of modules, and there are limits on how many modules of the same type you can add to a specific ship. For example, there are two types of slot. Weapons can only be added into the hexagonal slot type, which limits the number of weapons that you have. You can give your created ships names and deploy them into battle.
In the first few battles that are available on the demo, you get to play with these newly designed ships. The battles are intense and fast-paced. But you can always see the action.
To be victorious, you have to strike a balance between the number of ships that you deploy and their types. If you deploy only slow cruisers, you won't probably have a chance. But add a couple of fighters and your chances grow exponentially.
After a victory, you get respect points that you can use to unlock new modules.
In short, Gratuitous Space Battles is a great game for anyone who like space battles. Fans of Battlestar Galactica will love this game.
