DivX Player is a feature-rich video player designed by the same company that owns the DivX format. This application comes as an alternative to using QuickTime for movie playback, supports a wide variety of video and subtitle formats, enables you to stream clips to any DLNA-compatible device, and much more.
The utility features a straightforward interface, provides you with many playback settings, and offers you details about the input files (decoder, render, format, etc.). What's more, you can create playlists containing your favorite movies from your video library.
Another advantage is the fact that it keeps track of the scene you were watching before shutting down the app.
Nonetheless, this program doesn't feel as a Mac app at all. For example, it has a Windows-like appearance when importing videos or managing your library. Another thing I don't like about this utility is the fact that it doesn't support popular formats like FLV or WAV.
In my opinion, DivX Player still requires some work to be done. You can find various video playback utilities that don't bring you the aforementioned flaws and, like DivX Player, come without a price tag.
Pros
- User-friendly interface
- Allows you to create playlists
- Supports various video and subtitle formats
- Enables you to attach subtitles
- Free
Cons
- Windows-like appearance
- Lacks support for popular formats like FLV and WAV
- Displays ads
A highly capable player, even though it has some minor drawbacks. For being free, capable of playing various formats and having the possibility to stream video to other devices, it deserves to be tried.
Generally a good one, but a bit laggy.
I had no problems working with the player, though I couldn't enjoy it to the full. The switch between the windowed mode and full screen while playing a video had visual lags. So if I use Mac I will choose other players.
