Cream does not require a Google Reader account, and is the first newsreader to offer junk filtering.
Cream is a smart newsreader application that selects news that you may like. The application can supposedly learn about your reading habits while you are using it.
The application comes with a few feeds already configured and they are quite good. You will find news from AppleInsider, Ars Technica, BBC News, CNN, Engadget, Macworld, TechCrunch, and The Mac Observer, among a few others. You can even sync your Google Reader account to gain access to your customized feeds.
The application has an excellent design and it is really easy to navigate with your mouse. Keyboard navigation is present, but it could use some improvements. It would be great if news articles would open in a separate pane instead of a pop-up window, though.
Pros
- Great design
- It can sync with Google Reader
- Pocket, Instapaper, Readability support
Cons
- Keyboard navigation can be a bit cumbersome
