Info updated on:

Avogadro is a scientific application for creating and visualizing chemical molecules and compounds. It comes with a simple interface and an easy-to-use menu that gives Mac users quick access to all of the features. The users can create simple, double or triple bounds between atoms. Default atoms for creating molecules are Carbon atoms, but this piece of software provides access to Mendeleev's Periodic Table of Elements, so any element can be used. Also, this piece of software can automatically adjust Hydrogen atoms in order to fulfill the requirements on molecular bonds. Another useful function this feature-rich application provides is Align, and the users can choose whether they want to align the whole arrangement or just the last created molecules. Another relevant advantage of using this tool comes with the fact that users can measure the distance between atoms, which will be displayed in Angstrongs. In order to properly use this application, one must have basic knowledge of chemistry and understand how atoms connect and bond together.

All taken into consideration, you should give Avogadro a try; it is free, it comes with high applicability and is highly responsive to commands.
