Compress files into archives in ALZ, EGG, ESTsoft, RAR, 7Z, and ZIP formats individually or in batch mode. Unzip archives in dozens of formats, add context menus, and extract content from files protected with a password. Scan downloaded archives for viruses and generate self-extracting files.
ALZ and EGG file formats aren't as popular as ZIP, RAR or TAR, hence, not many Mac applications provide you with a solution for extracting their contents. One of them is ALZip, a very simple to handle program that immediately offers you the results you need.
Unlike its Windows version, this Mac utility doesn't provide you with a solution for compressing files, password-protect archives, merge compressed files, etc. The application only allows you to extract the contents of ALZ, EGG, RAR, 7Z, and ZIP files to your local folders.
ALZip gives you access to a comprehensive help manual, lets you choose which of the supported file formats should be associated with the app, and offers you various filename encoding modes (Chinese, Cyrillic, Japanese, Western European, etc.). Furthermore, this program supports drag-and-drop action and allows you to extract multiple archives at the same time.
Sadly, the app supports a small amount of archive formats (ALZ, EGG, RAR, 7Z, and ZIP). Hence, files with extensions like TAR, ACE or CAB are not supported.
To conclude, I'd say it's worth installing this utility on your Mac as long as you intend to use it only for extracting ALZ, EGG, RAR, 7Z, and ZIP archives files.
