ZipSplit

Splits large files into smaller segments and joins them back.

ZipSplit helps you distribute or share large files by allowing to split them into smaller chunks. Likewise, this small utility lets you merge them back together to rebuild the original file.

Actually, this utility is a GUI that provides easier access to the corresponding system commands.

The application could not be any easier to use. When you open it, there is a small welcoming window that prompts you to pick one of the two modes available: Split and Join. If you choose Split, then you need to select the file you want to divide into segments. Unfortunately, it is not possible to process file batches. The following step is entering the desired file size. This means that the tool automatically splits the source file into the necessary number of smaller ones. The reverse operation (joining) requires selecting the first segmented file in the series, which you can identify because of its extension (XAA). The utility works smoothly and causes no data loss in the process of splitting files and joining them back.

All in all, ZipSplit definitely makes it easier to split large files. However, this can also be done from the shell, provided you know how to use the necessary commands. What is more, some file managers make ZipSplit completely unnecessary. Unfortunately, the application does not put you in control of the zipping process. In fact, there is no information available related to the use of any data compression procedure to reduce the final file size. The product is available from the Mac App Store at a reasonable price.
