XFreesoft Mac DVD to AVI Converter is a commercial DVD ripper. It can be used to convert DVD movies to formats like AVI, MOV, FLV, 3GP, DivX, XviD, and MP4, among others. It comes with a decent video editor that lets you trim and crop your videos, adjust their brightness and even apply deinterlacing to your movies, which is something that has to be done often to DVDs.
Graphically, the application is nothing to write home about, but it doesn't look too bad either. It is comprised of some space where the DVD titles are listed, a video player on the right side, and the conversion settings at the bottom.
This is one of the cheapest DVD rippers I have seen. Most other commercial apps are at least 20 dollars more expensive. However, there are a few things that don't seem to be working right. For starters, I wasn't able to get subtitles to work, even after selecting different tracks from the drop-down menu. Another thing that didn't seem right was that some titles didn't start from the beginning. My test DVD movie started 15 seconds in, and I couldn't manually move the slider to go back to "0". I even tried the trimmer to select a segment of the clip, but to no avail.
In short, this ripper works well, except for those two things that I mentioned above. It has decent format support, but a limited number of conversion profiles.
