Wireshark

Wireshark is a smart application for Mac that allows users to browse and analyze network data. It was basically developed for network administrators but it can be easily used by unexperienced users, as well.

The main interface provides users with quick access to all of the features. This feature-rich application is an x11-based application so when launching the program, users will see x11 (a cross-platform windowing environment specific to UNIX systems) application popping out as well. Basically, the tool allows for capturing data from a network that shows the time, source, destination, protocol, length and some info for all active connections. On top of that, the tool also lets users monitor information related to virtual telephony. The menu of the software is complex and provides a lot of tools and features for users to explore, and the window drop-like tabs make it an easy-to-use menu as well.

In conclusion, it should be mentioned that Wireshark is a handy application for analyzing any streams of data and connection on a private network; it is free, it comes with an easy-to-use menu and is highly customizable.
