WinX DVD to iTunes Ripper for Mac is a free DVD ripper. It allows you to convert your DVD movies into video or audio files which you can then play on iTunes and add to your devices that sync with it. The app supports three output formats H.264, MPEG-4 and MP3. The first two are for video and MP3 for audio. If you rip a DVD to a video file, its sound will be encoded using AAC. From the settings you can change some conversion options, namely video and audio quality, video codec, image setting, resolution and number of CPU cores to be used.
In my testing, I used a TV show DVD with two episodes of my favorite show. The app detected them both, so I proceeded to select the one that I wanted to convert. I trimmed it to a 1-minute long video clip just to test if that feature worked. I selected the English subtitles from the drop-down menu and started the process. The whole process took a little under 2 minutes. The resulting file played well and the only problem I noticed was that subtitles didn't render well; they looked kind of transparent. I like the fact that you can choose not to change the resolution of your video. I did this by selecting the option "Original Size and Keep Aspect Ratio".
