WebTorrent is a desktop client that, unlike other torrent downloaders, can let you play the contents even if they have not been completely fetched. It allows various types of media contents, like sound and video. Likewise, it supports various protocols, including BitTorrent, WebTorrent, Transmission and uTorrent.
The client has a beautiful straightforward interface. Its main screen shows some featured contents that you can start playing with just a simple click. Moreover, it is possible to drop a torrent file or paste a magnet link there. Unfortunately, it does not allow searching for available torrents.
The tool has a built-in full-feature media player. As said, you do not need to wait until the whole file is downloaded to start playing it. As torrents are downloaded as pieces, there may be blank spaces in which playback is logically impossible. Normally, this would prevent seeking; however, WebTorrent can solve this problem by prioritizing the download of those sought segments.
All in all, WebTorrent is a great solution to play streaming contents from torrent sources. The developer alerts the application is still in its beta version so there may still be some bugs. The product is fortunately opensource, so there is no cost involved in trying or using it.
