WebReader is an RSS news reader built in Adobe Air. It can be installed right from your browser, which is very convenient.

It requires a Google account for the application to access your Google Reader subscriptions and articles. If you don't have one, the app will take you to the web page where you can open it.

The interface looks a lot like what you see when you browse your news using Google Reader, minus all the keyboard shortcuts. All your subscriptions are shown on the left, and there is a badge with the number of unread articles next to them. On the right, you will see the headlines for all the articles. You can click on one to mark it as read or click on the headline link to open the entire article.

In terms of performance, I had mixed reactions when I tested this app. At first, I like it quite a bit because of some of its interesting features, like offline mode, smart search and filtering, and sharing features, but in the middle of my testing, the app simply stopped working. I was no longer able to see news; the app simply told me that there was no content available, when I could see that my subscriptions had hundreds of unread items.

Pros

  • Nice interface
  • Good number of features

Cons

  • It stopped working after a few minutes
  • No keyboard shortcuts
