Transmission is a free BitTorrent client for the Mac. It is one of the best BitTorrents for the Mac that I know of.

And it should be in the top 3, along with uTorrent and Vuze. Each one of these applications has something different to offer. In the case of Transmission, it is ease of use and a great, simple interface.

The main window of the interface is very small, and it doesn't really need to be any bigger than it really is. All the torrents that you download are listed there and you can use the quick look feature to preview any files. This doesn't work all the time, but when it does it is a nice feature to have. It is not a Transmission feature, though. Quick look is carried out by Mac OS X.

The application performs quite well and it is incredibly light. It handled all the torrents that I tested it with just fine, and it maxed out my connection speed every single time. Transmission puts an icon on your dock which you can use to access the application. It also shows the current download and upload speed in real-time.

Transmission has Web and Terminal interface, which you can use to remotely manage the application. I tested the Web terminal, and it looks and works great.

Pros

  • Scheduled downloading
  • Direct file access
  • Traffic control
  • Web and terminal interfaces

Cons

  • Lack of media previewing

Transmission is a great easy to use and very reliable fast Bittorrent client for Mac OS X.But unfortunately lacks some more advanced features, which will hopefully be added as it is developed.

Nice and simple, but lacks the ability to select what files to download and which ones to leave.
