Tagger lets you include additional meta data to your files, so whenever you are looking for something, you will be able to find it with your own words. Adding tags to almost any of your files has never been easier. The program's easy installation and a nifty interface will help you finding exactly what you are looking for in fewer steps.

To test this program, I've downloaded a PDF file with the map of the United States that is missing the names of the states. The map was not completely empty as it included identifier for some people who may not realize that it is the United States, and that there are Pacific and Atlantic Oceans bound the continent. At any rate, you can easily find the file by typing one of those included words, but no results were returned when I tried to search for California and Washington - kind of obvious. So I opened up the Tagger and included Washington and California to the file as a meta tag. My next search of California returned this PDF file, so I assure you the program works.

The purpose of the program is clear but it is dubious at the same time. It is useless for tagging documents as you can just find them by the text inside them or you could spend a few extra minutes and assign the tags to those files for a better searching, but if you are doing it for one file, then you probably should do for all of them from then on.

If you feel that this app has a purpose that is "dubious" then do take a look at this list of apps that support metadata tags: http://code.google.com/p/openmeta/wiki/OpenMetaApplications

This might help to make the purpose less dubious.

Tags for text documents need not reflect the text contained in the document, it all depends on the reason for tagging. For example, a tag might be designed to identify documents relating to one or more projects, research areas, etc. (Aliases could be used to set up a directory structures to fulfill a similar purpose. However, using tags means that you can gather and analyse resources using other apps.)
