Suspicious Package is a program designed to help you analyze dubious OS X installer packages. By working with this Mac application, you can learn which scripts are being run during installation or what files are being installed once you open a PKG file on your computer.
The main window of the utility consists of 3 main panels: Package Info, All Files, and All Scripts. After you select the PKG file you wish to analyze, the program will display the found information in the aforementioned panels.
You can use this application to learn various details regarding your OS X installer package, such as developer ID, the number of scripts it runs, which web browser was used to download the file, etc. The utility also gives you access to a list showing the files within the import PKG and even lets you open them using your Mac apps. Still, the program occasionally fails to open some of the files from the imported PKG. In my testing, Suspicious Package didn't let me open a PDF files from a PKG, even though there's a default Mac tool for previewing this type of files (Preview app).
Another important advantage is the fact that it comes with a built-in search tool which proves to be of good use if you need to immediately find a certain file within the imported PKG.
In conclusion, Suspicious Package is a helpful and easy-to-use Mac tool that immediately analyzes PKG files and provides you with accurate data. What's more, it's free to use.
