RipToo YouTube Downloader for Mac is a commercial video downloader. It was designed to allow you to download videos from YouTube so that you can play them on your computer. But, in my case, I wasn't able to get it to work. I will get to that later in this review.
The application's main window consists of a couple of toolbars on the top and bottom of the screen, and some instructions in the middle. The instructions say that you have to make sure that a "sniffer" is on, which it is by default, and then you can just go to your web browser and watch a YouTube video, and it will be automatically downloaded. There is even a link to a video converter that you can play your downloaded files on iPods or iPhones (though they spell it i"iPone"). The aforementioned sniffer is supposed to be the component of the application that detects YouTube video playback. I don't understand why you can even set this feature off when there is no other way to add videos to your download queue. This just makes no sense.
Well, in my testing, I tried watching YouTube videos on Google Chrome and Safari. I didn't have any luck with either of those browsers. No videos were added to my download queue.
In short, I was not able to get this application to work. Thankfully, this is a trial, so you can download it yourself and see if it works for you.
- I can't say this app has any advantages. It is supposed to do one thing and it doesn't do it at all
- The application failed to download videos
