RIP Studio is intended for creating collages from a group of photographs and scraps. The application is characterized by being extremely simple to use as well as producing very realistic effects. Good news is that it can be used by any type of users. Besides, there is plenty of help in the form of documents and video tutorials.

RIP Studio has a nice interface that will look familiar if you have worked with similar apps before. Besides, it can be used as a plugin for various popular design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom and Serif Affinity Photo, in case you prefer so.

Good news is that you do not need to start from scratch as there is a welcome screen from which you can pick one of the background styles and collage sizes available or even use custom measures. Then, it is possible to select one of the presets available from the bottom pane. Although the presets come with images, it is quite easy to substitute them with your own by using the Background Style on the layer controls.

If you want to be original and thus start from nothing, it is good that the workflow is equally straightforward. The first step consists of importing images via drag-and-drop operations. Fortunately, each new image creates an independent layer, which facilitates compositing and transforming elements. Then, you can continue by adding different effects or any additional elements from a huge library that contains pins, staples, transparent tape, duct tape and masking tape. Finally, you can proceed to save your work. Luckily, the tool allows preserving transparency by exporting to PNG and TIF picture formats. Likewise, you can save your work as a preset for the future.

RIP Studio undoubtedly excels in creating realistic effects. In this respect, it comes with everything it takes to make your photos look like ripped pieces. Besides, you have total control of the final results by adjusting parameters like roughness and fiber length as well as selecting the desired border style, for example, hand-torn edge and scissor style. What is more, other elements, such as tapes, can be set to automatically crease.

The supports changing your project’s size once you have started working. However, I regret to say that it does a poor job in repositioning existing elements on the new space.

In a nutshell, Rip Studio can help you create great collages in virtually no time. Thus, it can be the tool of choice for such purposes as creating ads, music covers and scrapbooks. I recommend downloading the app from the developer’s site because the version on the Mac Store is outdated. There is also a trial version that supports all the Pro features.
