Resolution Tab is intended to help you switch between display modes. In this respect, the application provides a faster way to do that than when you follow the standard procedure.
The application is very unobtrusive as it runs from the Menu Bar. By clicking on its icon there, you can access a menu that lists both HiDPI and standard resolutions. This way, to change to the desired mode, you just need to pick the corresponding option. Moreover, if the intended resolution is not shown in the menu, you can still try finding them within the More Resolutions entry. Additionally, there is the option to set your preferences. In this respect, the only thing you can do there is to set the global shortcut you want to use to switch back to the previous display mode. Moreover, it is possible to configure the tool to start automatically with the system.
In short, Resolution Tab is definitely not a sophisticated application. In fact, you can still do the same without it. However, I will not deny it contributes to saving a lot of time and effort when switching between display modes. Just as a wish: it would be nice if you were allowed to configure keyboard combinations for specific resolutions. There is nothing to lose by giving it a try since the product is downloadable from the Mac App Store at no cost.
