Rail Modeler lets you design model railroad and slot car layouts. In this respect, the tool is intended to plan your models including all the necessary supplies. For this purpose, the application allows picking the desired items from extensive libraries of parts by various manufacturers.

You can start by putting track sections together. Luckily, there are wizards to help you perform common and bothersome tasks, such as inserting parallel tracks and creating a track helix. It is also good that you can assign different height levels to segments of tracks. What is more, the app supports using layers, which means that you can work on different types of elements separately. Likewise, you can export specific layers you want to reuse in other projects.

The main advantage of using this app is that it stores data about the elements used in your design. In this respect, anything you put on the plan, which includes not only tracks but also other elements such as signals, stations, houses and trees, is properly identified. To this end, there is a part list in which you can edit their prices. Therefore, it is easy to have a rather accurate idea of how much your project is going to cost.

The application generally works as expected. However, there may be problems if you intend to enlarge the workspace after using the feature that automatically adjusts the layout to fit contents. Moreover, I wish I could export my work in formats other than PNG. The product is available from the Mac Store in two versions: Express and Pro.
