PsyncX

PsyncX provides a graphic interface to the command line tool "psync". The application allows users to schedule backup tasks for both folders and whole hard drives.

With PsyncX you may back up data from a network location and in order to bypass any restriction, run as root with admin privileges.

For users familiar with backup utilities, PsyncX offers very few interesting features. Just like with similar tool, I was able to specify source and target locations. Bear in mind, PsyncX is not a synchronization tool but may behave like one (enabling / disabling the "Force copy even if file is up-to-date" feature). Each successful task that is performed will be included in the Backup log.

One single feature caught my attention; if you mirror your hard drive, a bootable drive will be created.

When creating a backup task, all selected disk / folder files will be included; with most applications, you get the ability to filter the data that will be backed up (by type, size, content). It does benefit however from the convenient features of a lightweight tool: it's easy to set up, runs fast and is resource friendly. All in all, this is an effective backup tool but there are other better utilities of this kind out there.
