ProVoc is a simple Mac utility that comes in handy if you want to learn the basics of a language before making a trip to a foreign country. This program comes as a free alternative to working with expensive language tutor applications or paying for courses. You can study from the comfort of your home, without spending a single buck.

You can create multiple documents, each for a certain word category (verbs, basic communication terms, household items, etc.). The utility allows you to add as many items as you like, attach comments to each term, and include the audio pronunciation of the words (you can use the built-in microphone to record the pronunciation).

Furthermore, after you take the quizzes, the program gives you access to a complete report based on the number correct and wrong answers.

Unfortunately, this program doesn't provide you with word translations. So, you still need to use an actual dictionary or your default Web browser to find the word translations you need.

Still, this application comes without a price tag, is very simple to use, and definitely helps you learn and train the vocabulary of a foreign language. In my opinion, it's worth giving it a try.
