Printopia is intended to allow remote printing from an iOS device. It works by sharing your local printers, physical or virtual, to make them readily accessible from the portable device. Additionally, the tool supports sending documents to given apps or directly to your Dropbox account. It starts automatically with your system, which means that it is available at all times.
Printopia’s interface makes it quite easy to use. It has three tabs. The Overview tab shows a summary of the app’s data together with the number of shared printers and the port number being used. Likewise, it lets you toggle printer sharing on or off. The Printers tab, in turn, shows a list of the printers installed on your system, and from there, you can select those you wish to share. Finally, the Jobs tab is intended to manage current printing jobs, which you can pause, resume and cancel. Likewise, you can get information about the job’s title, target printer and status as well as the ID of the user that originated it. Similarly, if the job list is long, you can use filters to make it simpler to manage.
One of the possibilities offered by the tool is to simulate printing by creating virtual printers with the idea of saving the sent files in the desired directories. This method also works for sending documents directly to the Cloud or other applications.
It is very convenient that Printopia allows configuring your printer’s output. For instance, you can automatically scale your documents to the desired paper size. Similarly, it is possible to change printer settings, like their print quality and color.
In general, Printopia is very recommendable if you frequently need to print documents, photos or screenshots from your iOS devices. It eliminates a lot of steps by allowing directly printing them without the need to open other applications. Besides, this standard edition being reviewed here, there is a Pro edition, which is intended for corporate use. Among other advantages, buying the Pro edition eliminates the restriction to only five shared printers of the standard edition.
