OpenSongs is a versatile application intended to manage lyrics, chords, lead sheets, overheads, and projections.
The application has an easy-to-use interface, with two tabs that allow switching between two modes: Songs and Set. In this regard, you can use the Song mode to access or modify the info or any other materials related to the songs. This is complemented with the Song Editor, which allows managing details about each song, such as author and title, as well as chords and lyrics. The Set mode, in turn, is used to add new songs as well as create presentations of their lyrics and chords. In Advanced view, OpenSong lets you configure playback by changing the music’s key and tempo. Unfortunately, the product comes with very poor help documentation.
One of the advantages of this tool is that you do not need to invest much of your time in creating presentations and it is good to hear that it comes with several themes. Along with the song, your presentations may also include parts of the Scriptures, selected pictures and links to other resources.
In general, OpenSong can use the data from its built-in database to create instant song presentations. For non-religious purposes, it may be used to teach languages through songs, rehearse musical performances, among other things. Fortunately, the product is open-source, and is available at no cost.
Pros
- Allows creating song presentations without much effort
- Two interface modes
Cons
- Poor help documentation
- Reported to hang when saving lyrics as PDF
(On a MacBook OS Ventura 13.0) 1 month ago, I have downloaded a V3.4 opensong version which was running well then suddenly fell flat today. Impossible to start up. I got rid of this one and took an older version : V3.0 Running properly now. Cross my fingers.
This program doesn't even work. I downloaded it, and it won't open up.
Bdarm, try an older version
OpenSong is now well into its version 2.x stream and stands to be the best free option for song management, set selection, and presentation.
