Nuku is a simple but handy application that allows you to learn basic concepts of the Japanese language. These are the basic symbols that appear in every word in Janese, which are called Kana. The program shows the symbols for both writing systems: Hiragana and Katakana, with their respective romanization. This romanization can also be seen in the three systems, namely Hepburn, Kunreisiki and Nihonsiki. You can select the one that best suits your needs.

Apart from the tutorial mode, the program includes other mode called Quiz. This mode helps you test how much you have learned of the Japanese symbols. The quiz shows several symbols in a row and you must select their corresponding Kana name in the the romanization system selected. If your answer is correct, you score points and you can continue with the test. On the contrary if your answer is wrong, you will be shown the correct answer, and you can continue with the quiz. The program even allows you to select exactly the kana lines you wish to test or select them all. The program features very simple graphics, no sounds, and no music.

In short, if you are looking for a simple application to learn and test the basic concepts of the Japanese language, Nuku may be interesting for you.
