Noizio is an ambient sound equalizer that renders the noises of natural phenomena or other environmental sounds. The noises are selected with care, so that they can create a relaxing mood for the listener. In addition, the mixture of ambient sounds makes users concentrate better on the task they are performing and inoculates them with a peaceful state of mind.
The program doesn't actually have an interface – it just installs as a small icon on Mac's upper bar, ready to provide you with the most appropriate sound track for a specific circumstance, be they related to computer work or to personal matters. The sound themes are nice, yet not extensive. You are limited to ten different themes, which imitate the hum of a coffee shop, the turmoil generated by a big storm (complete with thunders and lightning), the roar of a rainfall or of a burning campfire, the peaceful sound of waves breaking on the sea shore, the rippling of a river stream, the blizzard of a winter day, as well as the serene notes of a summer night or a sunny day. However, you can combine two or more themes in order to obtain new original and pleasant sounds. In addition, you can control the sound volume by increasing or decreasing it as you like.
The utility is really good, as it helps you focus better on your work and ignore the disturbing outside noise. You may set the program to launch at system's start-up with a specific mixture of sounds you've previously selected. Unfortunately, similar sounds are repeated frequently within the same track, which is quite annoying at times. What is more, you don't have the ability to enrich your relaxing music collection with ambient sounds from external sources. However, I hope that the program will provide more sound tracks and themes in the next versions, so that you don’t feel the need to import extra tracks.
