Proxy servers are classified by their level of anonymity: Low, Medium, or High. These levels are represented either textually by the aforementioned names, or graphically by a number of bars. Proxies with one bar are low anonymity, two bars are medium, and three bars are high.
Low Anonymity (one bar):
These proxies will transmit your IP address to the sites you visit via an
HTTP header field. Although most sites don't pay attention to this field, it is
there for them to inspect if they are programmed to do so. These proxy servers
are not very valuable for anonymity purposes, but should be useful for seeing
content from the country in which they're located.
Medium Anonymity (two bars):
A Medium Anonymity proxy server does not transmit your IP address, but it does
identify itself as a proxy server. As far as anonymity, there is little
difference between a Medium and High server. Some sites, however, may refuse
to serve content to a server which identifies itself as a proxy.
High Anonymity (three bars):
A High Anonymity proxy server does not transmit your IP address, nor does it
identify itself as being a proxy server. These are the most desirable of the
proxy types. All the NetShade proxy servers are High Anonymity.
