MetaZ is intended to help you manage your video collection by tagging the component files. The project is actually a fork of MetaX, so it shares most of its characteristics. In addition to allowing manual editing of metadata, the tool can automatically retrieve the corresponding information from online databases, which certainly saves a lot of time and effort. Unfortunately, however, the online help documentation is quite poor.
The application has a nice interface, which is quite easy to figure out. It is characterized by having tabs, called Info, Video, Sorting, Advanced and Chapters sections. Depending on the type of video files you are editing, there are different sets of fields. In the case of movies, you can easily edit or access such data as actors, director, producer, and screenwriter. Likewise, it is possible to keep info about your favorite TV series, including show, episode, season and TV network. Additionally, the tool supports checking your spelling as well as exporting the data as PDF documents.
All in all, MetaZ is an option if you want to tag your video files, mostly when you want to save a few bucks. It is a shame, though, that the application not always works as expected as it sometimes recovers the wrong data. Likewise, it may tag files in such a way that some media players may show the wrong information.
Magic Media Marker's main purpose is to process video files and make them pretty in iTunes and on your Apple Devices.
