Marta is a dual-pane file manager, which facilitates operations that involve two different locations. In this respect, it is intended to overcome the limitations of your system’s built-in file manager, Finder, as to not allow you to browse two directories from the same window.
The app is quite minimalistic, so you will not find any superfluous elements and adornments. It looks very similar to other file managers with two panes, so you can use it “straight from the box” without much difficulty. Its layout is ideal for such operations as comparing the contents of two folders or transferring files from one to the other. Likewise, the app supports two display modes: Table and Multi-column. Above each panel, you can find the path of the currently opened folder. Besides, you can arrange the list according to specific properties as a name, date and extension.
The tool supports mouse operations. However, you will see your productivity skyrocket if you use the function keys instead. Ideally, you should learn them by heart, but, in the meantime, you can still find a quick reference at the bottom area of the window.
All in all, Marta may be more convenient than Finder, specifically for file operations in which two different directories are involved. The product is still under development, and for the time being, it is downloadable from its developer’s site at no cost.
