Useful for relatively simple projects. Easy to import CSV/Excel data, easy to make changes to individual geographic units without re-importing data. The lack of tools to create a legend does create extra work, as you need to export the map into another program to include any text with the map. There does seem to be some conflict with OS X, as it can crash without warning. As long as you save after every change, you shouldn't lose any work.
