MacX Free DVD to iPad Ripper for Mac lets you convert your DVD movies into video files that you can later play on your iPad.

The application can encode files using the H.264 and MPEG-4 codecs. These are very popular nowadays and most devices will play them just fine. So, you will also be able to use the files that you convert with this app on your iPhones, iPod Touch, your Mac, etc.

One of the good things about this app is that it lets you load DVD movies from the disc itself or a folder on your hard drive. This is particularly useful for users who don't have a DVD drive on their Mac and depend on a shared drive.

When you load a movie, you will see all the titles that make it up. Here you can check the ones that you want to convert. The main movie title is selected automatically. At the bottom of the screen, you will find the conversion settings. Here you can pick from several conversion profiles. You can also change conversion settings manually if you want.

There is an additional tab at the bottom that lets you convert your DVD movies to audio files. The only supported audio format is MP3, though.
