LinkLiar is a simple application that can help you avoid MAC-based filters that prevent you from connecting to given networks or protect your computers from being tracked by others. As you may know, a MAC address is a unique identifier attached to your network card; however, this does not mean that you cannot use fake addresses, which is the method used by LinkLiar.
The application is very unobtrusive and runs from the menu bar. Thus, by clicking on its icon there, you can access a simple menu to manage the application’s options. In this respect, you can set it to generate random MAC addresses with the possibility of avoiding any possible (but very unlikely) conflict with a similar address on the same network. There is also the possibility to define a different MAC address manually. Luckily, this version of the app can revert changes and recover the original address.
By going to the Settings submenu, it is possible to configure various parameters. For instance, you can set the tool to start automatically at login and continue running in the background. Similarly, it is possible to allow rerandomization and anonymous logs.
All in all, LinkLiar helps you avoid restrictions and remain anonymous in a very simple way. Fortunately, this is an opensource product you can use at no cost. However, unlike other similar applications, it does not provide such additional features as IP-monitoring and real-time alerts.
