KPlayer is a commercial video player that is based on QuickTime and FFMPEG. It allows you to play all the video formats that you can open with those decoders, which include MOV, H.264, MPEG-2, MKV, MPEG-4, DivX, XviD, and a few others.
The application lets you create playlists for continuous video playback. There is an inspector window that shows information about the file that is being played. Subtitles can also be displayed along with your movies. KPlayer supports the SRT and SMI subtitle formats. The subtitle files have to be placed in the same folder as the video file and with the same name except for the extension.
In my testing, KPlayer performed well. I tested it with SD and HD MKV and MOV files. Video and audio playback was smooth once the file was loaded, although I noticed that it took a bit longer than VLC to load files. The only problem that I had with this application was with an MKV file with integrated subtitles: for some reason, KPlayer didn't want to display the subtitles, when VLC showed them just fine.
All in all, KPlayer is a nice video player. However, there are free alternatives that are better, more customizable and with better performance, such as VLC and MPlayerX.
