Image Converter

Image Converter allows converting between image formats. It is based on FFmpeg, so it supports practically any of the commonly used picture extensions, including BMP, PNG, JPG and TIFF.

The tool is quite easy to use. When it starts, there is a sort of welcome menu from which you can pick one of the two modes: single or batch conversion. Likewise, there is help documentation available from the first screen.

When used in single conversion mode, there is a wizard to take you through the workflow, which includes importing the desired picture and picking an output format and directory. In batch mode, you can create a list with all the images you wish to convert. Luckily, it is possible to import all files from a directory, including its subdirectories. Then, you can simply check those you want to process or use extension-based filters. Fortunately, the app integrates with your system and you can use the contextual menu to convert a file directly from Finder.

It is a good thing that you can create conversion profiles for those operations you perform repeatedly, which saves time and effort. Similarly, you can include effects like rescaling and sharpening to be applied together with the conversion process. Regrettably, when used in batch mode, the tool does not allow using individual conversion profiles.

Image Converter can work very fast and accurately because it uses a highly efficient engine and supports multicore processing. In addition, you can expand its support to other image formats by installing custom FFmpeg binaries.

All in all, Image Converter is highly recommendable as a means to convert your images to other formats. It is also good that you can even enhance your photos by applying effects. Luckily, there is a trial of the Premier edition, which you can use for 21 days. Moreover, you can check on different types of licenses, as some of them allow using the product on both your Mac and Windows systems and others let you install it on five different machines.
