Homework Stopwatch is a timer designed for pre-school children. This application lets you use a stopwatch that kids can see on your Mac's screen while they do their homework.

The stopwatch shows a drawing of an animal. There are five animals available: a sheep, a chicken, a ladybug, a pig, and what looks like a frog. These will all be shown when you start the application. When you select one of them, it will be displayed at the top of the screen. There will be three buttons below the drawing: start, reset, and stop. Once you start the stopwatch, the drawing will change with each second that goes on. Most drawings only have a few changes that will be repeated on and on.

Homework Stopwatch runs in full-screen mode by default, but you can switch to the windowed mode by pressing the escape key.

I guess this app can be useful for small kids. It could help you teach them how to count the time and how to finish a task in a given time frame. I have read reviews on the Mac App Store saying that the stopwatch doesn't work and that there are bugs, but I tried it, and it worked like a charm. The only thing that I couldn't do was resize the window in windowed mode. The design leaves a bit to be desired, but since this app is for kids, I can understand some of the design choices.

Pros

  • Cute drawings
  • It works well

Cons

  • No countdown
  • Not the best graphical design

The animals are cute. The app can be used to keep track of how much your kids read.
