Hands Off! is a system and network security tool for the Mac. It allows you to restrict the access that your applications get to your network and your disks. Whenever an application wants to access the Internet, for example, Hands Off! will detect this and show a pop-up window that tells you what host the app wants to contact and on what port. You can choose to allow or deny the connection either for the current host, until the application quits, until a restart or forever. Hands Off! has to inevitably be compared with Little Snitch, but Hands Off! can also keep an eye on what applications are trying to store on your hard drives or the information they want to access. Thus, with this tool, you can run untrusted applications and be certain that no sensitive data can be obtained by them.
I like the fact that Hands Off! offers you an option to allow or deny access until you restart your system. Also, there is a system-wide shortcut that allows you to disable the rules if you get tired of the pop-ups. This is not secure, but it can be useful. There are a bunch of features that you can activate on the settings window.
All in all, this app seems to work well and it offers a lot of security. You can test it yourself for free.
