ForkLift is a very advanced file and folder management tool. It also comes with other functionality that just makes it better. For example, there is a built-in FTP and Amazon S3 client which allows you to connect to an FTP site or Amazon S3 account and move files around. But what I really like about this app is how good it can manage files.

When you first open this app, there is one thing that you will notice: there are two panes instead of the single one Finder gives you. This makes moving files around your Mac a much easier task. This view shows some information about the files and folders that it shows, and it gives you access to Quick Look. There is a feature called Zoom which basically temporarily closes one of the panes and shows the other one in the totality of the screen. When you click the "Zoom" button again, the two-pane interface will be restored.

ForkLift manages FTP connections just fine and it supports the FXP protocol to allow you to copy files from an FTP server to another one, without having to download those files to your computer first.

There are several interesting features available, so make sure you check them all during your trial period.

I have been using Forklift for years now. Before I switched to the Mac I used Total Commander and I had to find something similar for the Mac because the one pane outlay of the Finder was driving me nuts. Copying and moving files around or working with files in general is so much easier with two panes. For me Forklift replaces 4 apps: the Finder (a file manager), an FTP client, an app deleter and a multi rename tool. Instead of buying 4 apps separately I only bought this one and I'm really satisfied with it.

I am using Go FTP for Mac. It's small, fast, efficient, stable.
