Fluctus Free is intended for editing audio. The application has an intuitive interface, so it is very unlikely that anyone with experience with this kind of tool can have difficulties to use it.
Fluctus Free is, in many respects, similar to other audio editors: it lets you trim, cut, copy and merge audio segments as well as apply filters. However, what makes this tool different is that it supports using audio regions. Moreover, it comes with an intuitive marker system, which favors working with specific audio segments. Luckily, these markers can be exported to comma-delimited text files for future use.
However, mostly because this is the free version of a paid product, it has some limitations related to not allowing the export of audio in bit depths higher than 24-bit. Likewise, it does not support exporting 5.1 surround audio or saving the spectrogram as PNG or SVG picture files.
All in all, Fluctus Free can solve the most common problems involved in editing audio. It facilitates audio editing with various convenient features. Yet, it has some noticeable limitations in terms of exporting high-quality or 5.1 surround audio.
Pros
- Supports using audio regions
- Allows multiple importing and exporting formats
- Exports markers to CSV files
Cons
- Cannot export audio in bit depths higher than 24-bit
- Cannot export 5.1 surround audio
- Does not allow saving the spectrogram as PNG or SVG picture files
I think Fluctus is fantastic for a free application. It does everithing that QuickTime does (and more) but at a professional level! The only "down", is that you need to know a bit about digital audio to understand how it works!
