Duplicate Finder allows you to scan your computer for duplicate files and offers to delete them in order to gain valuable free space. With convenient scan and search filters, the application is both reliable and easy to use.
The program's interface is very basic, and it comes with a clean appearance. The main window will not impress you too much, as it only displays the file importing modes, a search box to find specific results, and a shortcut for quick access to iPhoto. Advanced features are to be found in the drop-down menu, where the Preferences dialog allows you to set the scan options. Therefore, you can choose to scan an entire directory (including its sub-folders), check archives, as well as hidden files and folders. In addition, you can set the program to exclude from the scan process files smaller than a specific size you determine.
Once the setups are configured, you just need to select the source to scan and let the program do its job. Either you can scan for duplicates in iPhoto (or within a similar photo library), or you can select an ordinary directory, containing all types of files. The tool provides five different removal modes, so that you can choose the deletion method that better suits your needs.
All the above-mentioned features make Duplicate Finder a good alternative to clean your computer of useless duplicate files. It allows you to scan for all types of files – still, searching for a specific category of files is available only for images.
