DrawnStrips Reader – The Best Comic Reader could not have a more descriptive (and self-praising) name.
This reader supports various types of files, including some archive formats like CBR, CBZ, CB7, CBT, ZIP, RAR and TAR. Moreover, it allows importing an entire image folder as well as scanned PDF documents. Regrettably, I do not know why it did not let me open a separate JPG image.
The tool is very easy to use. Once you load the desired file, there are thumbnails for the pages or you can simply browse through them. Fortunately, you can customize it to make it show two facing pages, change the background color or switch its default manga-style to left-to-right reading direction. It is a shame you cannot continuously scroll down, though.
Another convenient feature is that the reader can also convert the documents between the formats supported. For instance, you can convert a picture to other image formats, like JPEG, PNG and TIFF. It is also good that you can configure such parameters as brightness, contrast, gamma and sharpness, which comes handy particularly in the case of scanned pages.
All in all, DrawnStrips Reader – The Best Comic Reader is probably your best option if you like reading mangas or comics from the screen. There is a trial version available from the developer’s site and, if you like the product, you can purchase it from the Mac Store at a very reasonable price.
