Downie is an online video downloader for Mac that supports over 1000 websites. With this app, you can download videos of any duration and quality, including HD and 4K content, from sites like YouTube, Vimeo, BBC, and many others. Among its most salient features, Downie supports multiple simultaneous downloads and works as a video converter.
There are different ways to start a download with Downie, and the easiest one is by copying and pasting a video URL into the app's main window. Dragging and dropping a video link from the web browser into the app's icon on the Dock is another option. The app will quickly scan the links and start the download process. In addition to this, Downie is capable of processing lists of video links and even extracting video URLs from a piece of text.
The list of video downloads displays details like video resolution, download speed, remaining time, etc. You can pause, resume, and also cancel downloads with a button. Right-clicking any of the videos will reveal post processing actions to convert videos to MP4 and MP3. The video download and conversion process occurs almost simultaneously, in the same step, which makes it quick and convenient. In addition, Downie can be added as an add-on to all the popular web browsers.
With the search function, Downie lets you find and download videos and music from several media sources. Moreover, if you click the blue button, the app will show you a list of the videos other users are downloading, giving you the option to add any of these to the download queue.
Numerous settings and configuration options can be found in the Preferences window, where you can choose the folder where downloads will be saved, view the full list of supported sites, among many other options.
