I'm running Lion and my Disk Utility does not have a tab for partition. What can I do?

Answer by Dan Angel

First, check if you clicked the primary partition from Disk Utility instead of the intended one. You need to select the first one from the left corner. If you select the icon for the drive below the main disk, you actually select the partition which cannot be partitioned. You need to select the root volume of the drive. But, if you already selected the root volume, and the partition tab is not available, you need to reinstall the operating system.
