Disk Map is an application that allows you to view the structure of your Mac’s hard drive. The tool provides a clear tree-map display of files and folders, so that you can see what directories and files take most of your disk space. In addition, the program offers to compress and, respectively, delete the items you select.
The interface is extremely simple and easy to use, since all you need to do is select a folder to scan. Once the scan is over, you are informed about the number of identified files and their total size. Then, you can navigate through the sub-folders of the main directory and find size-related information about each file. However, before enabling the scan process, it is advisable to access the Preferences dialog in order to set several scan-related issues. Namely, you can choose to add the files to a queue instead of deleting them immediately, or you can move them directly to Trash. If you decide to compress specific files and folders, you can ask the program to delete the original items automatically, which will help you gain more space. In addition, you can narrow the scan to ignore files below a minimum size that you are free to determine. Furthermore, the app allows you to set exclusion rules that will ignore certain file extensions and specific folders. Also, the tool has the ability to scan for hidden files and folders, and displays them in the map with attached size-related references. A feature that you will definitely appreciate is the 'Quick Look' option, which allows you to preview the content of the selected file. more
