Info updated on:

Destroy Twitter is an Adobe AIR-based client for the popular microblogging service. Besides having a pretty, minimalist design, the app is rich in features without being overly complex, offering all average users need to improve their experience in Twitter.

The app displays the timeline in a small window that can be resized to make mentions, interactions, and direct messages visible. Unlike Twitter, this app lets you determine the refresh rate of your timeline and also the number of tweets you want to read per page. When new tweets arrive, the application shows notifications in the form of pop-up alerts with sound that let you know at a glance what's going on without the need of opening the app. Another thing I also found handy is the 'away' feature, which allows you to just pause the tweet stream for a while in case you want to avoid distractions.

Accompanying the app's smart design, buttons are small and subtle yet easily accessible. If you click the wheel that appears below every tweet, you will see different options, like retweet, fave, or reply. It is possible to filter users so their tweets no longer show up in your timeline, which is simply a fantastic feature. You can also exclude from your timeline tweets containing certain words or from sources like Foursquare or Gowalla.

There are lots of other features to discover in this small app, among them, the possibility to modify its looks by means of themes or change the alerts sound. One feature I missed, however, is the possibility of adding columns to see followers or the people you are following.

Destroy Twitter is certainly a powerful Twitter client that can enhance the way you interact with this social network, giving you more control over what you want to read. It stands out for its simple design, ease of use, and the loads of features it offers.
